Wappusoudut

Wappusoudut are the annual church boat rowing contest, held at the Tuira beach during the First of May celebrations. The contest itself is organized by engineering students, who together with medical students, compete most fiercely over the victory.

When the ice conditions of the Oulu river prohibit rowing, alternative activities take place.

Each rowing team should have 15 members of which one member is the boat captain. The captain's responsibility is to keep the team in pace and to steer. Anyone rowing is strongly recommended to wear leather gloves in order to protect their hands from blistering.
